Implant crowns & bridges
Once an implant has integrated it can carry a single crown, or several implants can carry a bridge across a longer gap. Either way the result is fixed in place and cleaned like natural teeth.
One post, one crown. The neighbouring teeth are not touched, which is its main advantage over a conventional bridge.
Two or more implants carrying several teeth. Fewer implants than teeth, which keeps the cost and the surgery down.
A fixed set of teeth on four to six implants, for someone who has lost or is losing everything on one jaw.
A conventional bridge is quicker and cheaper, and it is the right answer when the teeth either side of the gap already need crowns. If they are healthy and untouched, cutting them down to carry a bridge is a real cost that does not appear on the invoice.
An implant costs more up front and takes months longer. It leaves the neighbours alone and keeps the bone loaded. We will lay both options out with prices and let you choose.
Questions
Yes, once it is finished. Implant-supported teeth are fixed and take full chewing load. During the healing months we will tell you what to avoid.
With floss threaders, small interdental brushes or a water flosser. Your hygienist will show you on the day it is fitted, and check it at every visit.
It is uncommon, but it happens. The site is usually allowed to heal and can often be re-implanted. We will be straight with you about why it failed.
